After being laid off from his long-time employer, Edgar faced a challenging transition. Despite actively searching for work, he felt stuck and unsure of his next steps. Seeking guidance, he turned to Workforce Solutions (WFS) and enrolled in the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Dislocated Worker program. His goal was to explore new employment opportunities and pursue Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) training.
Through WIOA, Edgar enrolled in the CDL training program at Howard College and successfully completed it. During this time, he was also preparing for a major life event, as he and his spouse were expecting the birth of their child. The day after earning his CDL, Edgar and his wife welcomed their baby, allowing him to be present for the birth and support his family.
Shortly after, Edgar received a job offer from a Midland-based trucking company he had previously applied to. He accepted the position and is now working full-time as a CDL driver, providing a stable income to support his wife and their four children.
Edgar’s story is one of perseverance, resilience, and success. With WIOA’s support, he overcame unemployment and transitioned into a rewarding career path that allows him to provide for his growing family.
