Choices
The Choices program assists applicants, recipients, and former recipients of Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) cash assistance to transition from welfare to work through participation in work-related activities, including job search, job readiness classes to prepare for work, subsidized employment, support services such as childcare assistance, transportation assistance, and work-related expenses may be available to eligible participants.
The Choices Program is designed to help recipients find employment, or if already employed, will help recipients find a better job. Career Specialist will work with you one on one to provide customized services catered to addressing your needs and helping you reach your goals.
TANF
Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) is federal cash assistance for families in need for a limited amount of time. Once certified for the benefits, TANF recipients must attend a Workforce Orientation for Applicants (WOA) with a Talent Development Specialist at the Workforce Solutions office.
SNAP E&T
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Employment and Training provides recipients the opportunity for work-based activities and educational and training services. Health and Human Services Commission is responsible for the eligibility.
Career specialists work closely with participants to identify and address special needs and barriers to gainful employment through the development of an individual employment plan. Included in the plan is an assessment of educational strengths, vocational aptitudes and skills. Career specialists will assist participants in attaining established goals and help discover new goals of employment.
Work-Based Activities
Work-based activities are those activities offered through the Choices and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Employment and Training. They include:
- Job Search Seminars (Resume Preparation, application completion and interviewing skills)
- Job readiness Seminars (Enhance employability skills, Financial Literacy)
- Educational (GED preparation), occupational and vocational training
Support Services
Support services such as childcare assistance, transportation assistance, and work-related expenses may be available to eligible participants.
