About Military Workforce Employment Program
The Military Workforce Employment Program (MWEP) was developed as part of the Goodfellow Air Force Base (GAFB) Community Partnership with the San Angelo community to address workforce development requirements for transitioning military members and their dependents. Two main goals exist for this program:
- Assist military spouses and or military dependent obtain jobs within the Community and
- Provide internships for transitioning military members under the Department of Defense Skillbridge Program. These internships, up to six months in duration, will be done as part of the program described at https://www.afpc.af.mil/Separation/CSP/.
The formal portion of the program is structured as a 2-day program and held once a quarter at Goodfellow Air Force Base. Various local employers have been identified to participate in this program, but additional employers will be contacted based on career desires of class participants. These employers agree to provide company presentations, provide site tours of their facilities, and outline employment and internship opportunities as applicable All of the program activities are provided free of charge to participants as the Concho Valley Workforce Board/Workforce Solutions Center uses Federal or State programs to provide these services. Employers desiring to provide internships as part of this program must complete the required paperwork with Goodfellow Air Force Base.
Two to three weeks prior to the first day of the Military Workforce Employment Program, all participants are requested to create a work in Texas account and take any and all assessments that might be required of the company you are interested in working for. When registering in Work In Texas, this can be done remotely or in the Workforce Solutions Center. All assessments are required to be completed at the Workforce Solutions Center. An employer spreadsheet with any required job testing or assessments will be made available to you via email after you contact Heather.
For example, Ethicon requires the ACT Work Keys assessment be completed as a condition of being able to interview with them. Ethicon has established certain score levels that must be achieved for certain positions. Completion of this 3-hour assessment will result in you earning a National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC) that can be counted as college credit. This stackable credential, comparable to the Military ASVAB, should be added to an individual’s resume as this credential is recognized by more than 140 employers in the Concho Valley area.
If a participant wants to work in an area but lacks the educational training to work at a given employer location, the Concho Valley Board can potentially pay for all tuition and book expenses for an individual to receive this training. Approved training taken in support of a Concho Valley high demand or target occupation can be funded for either a transitioning military member or military dependent. Survey feedback will be requested at the end of the 2-day program as we hope to provide the best training available to meet the needs of our military community. We will share survey feedback from previous students along with the current agenda and a list of employers participating in the program with this information sheet.
